GOT IT!

Sometimes getting a copy of something you've been in can be even harder than auditioning, getting cast and shooting the damn thing. Such was the case with my latest commercial. I've called and left voicemails aplenty, politely and professionally requesting just one tiny little DVD so I can prove to the world I was really in it. And, more importantly, add it to my demo reel to prove to the industry I was really in it.

But since I am just a slab of talking meat (i.e. an "actor") my pleas were roundly ignored. So for a few weeks I diligently DVR'd shows that were running the campaign, hoping to capture my commercial. No luck. I felt like I was always fishing in the part of the pond that was biting... yesterday. Then one night I happened to be watching "Office Space" on Comedy Central, and THERE I WAS! Luckily, I was able to rewind and hit record. Best additional $8.95 per month I've ever spent.

24 in 30, and Two Toms.

I spent the bulk of this past weekend doing two things I love: shooting and acting. My severely talented pals at Drink At Work cast a whole slew of comedians to take part in a series of shorts they wrote, each of which collapses a whole season of the show "24" into a 30-second comedy film. So basically they've reduced 4 years down to 2 minutes and made them much, much funnier. I played a government agent, a secret service guy, a double-crossing villain and someone called "Acting President Secretary Callahan." I die at least 3 times. I'll post it here when it's done, which I hope is pretty soon.

The balance of my weekend took place at a table read for a new short film I was cast in called "Two Toms." It's based on a true story where a bunch of lifelong Brooklyn friends take one of their own out to a rowdy dinner to help him get over the recent death of his mother. I play "Chief," a guy who in reality couldn't be more different from me, but who I know is the kind of guy I could easily have become if not for comic books, art class, and a mother who would have gladly killed me if I'd strayed too far from "good boy" territory. The script is really dirty, really funny, and really sweet, and I'm looking forward to shooting it.

As promised, here a few photos of my street after the "I'm-sure-it-had-nothing-to-do-with-global-warming-and-was-just-a-freak-occurance
-that-couldn't-be-predicted-or-prevented" tornado ripped through 11209 the other day.

Monday, August 6th I'll be performing an original character monologue at the famous Manhattan Monologue Slam!

"The show features two sets of theatrical action and is simply the best collection of acting talent, performing three minute character-based monologues in front of packed houses and a panel of industry celebrities and professionals (the judges). It's not poetry, not spoken word, not performance art, not improv, not storytelling... it's..." - from mmslam.com

I'll give you a hint about what I wrote: It's very funny and it involves dead co-workers. You'll just have to come down and find out the rest for yourself. But come early because this show is always packed (as in standing-room only packed.) Will I win? Will I lose? Will I kill? Come on down and see!
